At the 2016 ACPA Annual Convention I had the privilege of being part of the Pecha Kucha program. Below I share the result of this talk, called What the Class of 2020 Doesn’t Know about Social Media.
This talk expands the narrative for the incoming freshman class, telling the stories of youth who will have grown up with technology tools like social media since elementary school. Tools like YouTube videos and Facebook Feeds have been at their finger tips since the age of eight. They’ve documenting middle school experiences through Instagram, and most recently Snapchatted their way through high school. Student Affairs professionals also have a technology adoption timeline that is woven into the Class of 2020. Collectively, there are things we know and don’t know yet about social media required for leadership in the digital age.
