EdTech Companies at #NASPA16

Last week at the annual ACPA Convention, I wrote a post called Connecting with EdTech Companies at Student Affairs Conferences. I shared what education technology related vendors would be at that conference, as each year I am seeing more and more products attempting to tap into the college market.
Today I will list all the vendors related to Ed Tech at the NASPA 2016 Annual Conference, held March 13th-16th in Indianapolis. Going through the entire vendor list my jaw dropped, as just about HALF of the vendors are tech related!! From housing management platforms, apps for student engagement and assessment tools:

Silicon Valley has arrived to Student Affairs.

I believe the faster technologies advance and service delivery is expected in blended online spaces, higher education will need the innovations these companies are developing. However, as I stressed to ACPA attendees,

I write this post to share the importance of knowing the players in edtech and how building relationships with them will benefit your campus, network and resources. These educational technology companies need our voices. They need to know if their products are on the right path for what students, staff and our entire campuses need.

My challenge: Instead of going to the expo hall just for the free coffee, ice cream or pens – go in with intention. Learn what’s trending from these technology companies, take in their knowledge of tech advancements in 2016 and further share your insights into the work you do on a daily basis.

What edtech companies are you current working with or looking into? What do you wish these vendors would know about your technology needs?
Have a fantastic NASPA conference!

Right-Sizing Executive Support

Last week I hosted a live session for a webinar room full of higher ed marketing and communications professionals, and within the first two minutes we were comparing notification badge counts. Somebody logged 691 unread emails. Somebody else said inbox zero, always, like it was a badge of honor. That contrast is exactly where this ...

The background is light beige with overlapping soft yellow and pink abstract circles. The Dr. Josie Ahlquist logo and tagline, “purpose-driven digital leadership,” appear near the bottom right.

From Awareness to Action: Digital Wellness Strategies for Campus Communities

Something is off in how we talk about wellness on campus. The banners go up. The email goes out. The Instagram graphic is clean and on-brand. And then… not much happens. People scroll past. Staff glance at the flyer and keep walking to their next meeting. Students see the resource link and never click. It’s ...

Fizz Is on Your Campus. Now What?

There’s a good chance your students are using an app you didn’t approve, don’t manage, and can’t control. Not YikYak. Not Redditt. Fizz. And if you work in higher education — student affairs, communications, campus police, judicial affairs, or social media — it’s probably already on your radar, your stress list, or both. I’ve been ...
