James Robilotta // Tripping with Swag, Airplane Friends, Social Media Mountains & Re-Writing the Stories We Tell Ourselves

Previous student affairs educator/pot stirrer turned professional seed planter/leadership speaker and personal coach – James Robilotta packs up a punch on the podcast today. Literally. James warns he’ll get you laughing and then punch you in the feels. Yes, feelings, the real ones. Questions about your life that will make your head spin, while uncontrollably giggling. He also calls out the constant comparison we hold ourselves to on social media – as we climb our own mountain of success. He’ll either change the way your approach meeting people on airplanes or pray you never meet him on one. All these acts are because James believes in the power of our stories – even the imperfect parts. He’ll share his own insecurities and lead you through his flaws, as he did in his book Leading Imperfectly. Because your story is good enough.

More about James

James Robilotta is an author, professional speaker, personal coach, emcee, and entrepreneur. In July of 2015 James had his first book published, Leading Imperfectly: The value of being authentic for leaders, professionals, and human beings. He also speaks internationally to willing and unwilling audiences about authentic leadership and promoting memorability. His clients include American Express, General Electric (GE), Yale University, Ohio State University, and many others. As a speaker, he is doing the two things he loves the most: causing audiences to think critically about their leadership journeys and making people laugh! His thought-proving talks are infused with self-awareness and comedy stemming from his background as a trained stand-up and improv comedian.

James is also a personal coach. He loves helping people get out of their own ways to live the lives they deserve and be the leaders they are capable of becoming. James’ clients undergo purposeful life-changing and self-affirming transformations. His clientele ranges from CEOs to college students. Leading With Hard Work and Heart Work with Shea Kidd Brown

It is so difficult to be mindful online these days. The apps and algorithms are just not designed to keep us in the present. And with so much curation necessary to create our idea of a “perfect profile,”  how can we make sure we are showing up in our digital accounts and profiles in a heartful way?

My guest today has mastered the art and science of being her whole self online. Whether she is weaving the values her grandmother taught her into presentations or sharing the intimacies of her adoption journey on social media, Dr. Shea Kidd Brown consistently stays true to her commitment to sharing both her personal and professional journeys openly and genuinely.

Shea has enjoyed a long career in college administration at a number of institutions of higher education in the southeastern region and now serves as the Vice President for Campus Life at Wake Forest University.

In this episode, Shea discusses her perspective on storytelling, congruency and the importance of bringing humanity into digital spaces. We’ll also dive into how balancing personal and professional narratives is essential for creating an impactful online presence and how Shea uses these platforms to create active, mindful connections for her campus community.
