Liz Gross HeadshotDr. Liz Gross is a higher education marketing and communications scholar, practitioner, speaker, author, and instructor, with expertise in social media. Her professional superpowers include designing and analyzing market research, applying social media strategy to multiple areas of the business, explaining difficult concepts in simple language, and using social listening to develop consumer insights and assist with reputation management.
Liz is the founding Director of Campus Sonar, a specialized social listening agency that empowers colleges and universities to find and analyze online conversations that matter, seize engagement opportunities, and identify actionable insights with strategic impact. She’s previously served as the Market Insights Manager and Social Media Strategist at Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation. Prior to joining Great Lakes, she was the Director of Marketing and Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha and Program Outreach Coordinator in University Housing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
She has spoken about social media and higher education at South by Southwest EDU, South by Southwest Interactive, the American Marketing Association Symposium for the Marketing of Higher Education, the CASE Social Media and Community Conference, and the Carnegie Conference. Her writing has appeared in New Directions in Student Services, the DMA Analytics Journal, ACUHO-I Talking Stick, CASE Currents and her eBook, How to Manage Social Media in Higher Education.
Liz received her Ph.D. in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service in Higher Education at Cardinal Stritch University. Her dissertation research examined the relationship of communication method and the frequency and content of college student interactions with faculty and was awarded the Leo and Margaret Goodman-Malamuth Outstanding Dissertation Award from the American Association of University Administrators. Liz holds a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communication from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and a master’s degree in educational policy and leadership from Marquette University.

Rebekah Tilley is the assistant vice president of communication and marketing for the University of Iowa Center for Advancement (UICA). In that role she supports fundraising and alumni engagement efforts for the university, including its CASE Gold winning Iowa Magazine, and serves UICA in a variety of strategic communication efforts.

Previously she was the director of strategic communication for the University of Iowa Tippie College of Business, and the director of communication for the University of Kentucky College of Law. She is a Kentucky native and a proud alum of the University of Kentucky.
