Notes from this Episode:

More About Sarah

My name is Sarah Aguilar and I am currently a Junior Psychology major at Illinois State University. Throughout my time at ISU I have been very involved throughout various departments of the university. For example, I was on Student Government my freshman year and served as East Campus Senator. This provided me with the opportunity to serve as the secretary of the Finance and Planning Committee. In addition, I was able to go to the state capital twice and speak with legislators, senators, and Speaker of the House, Mike Madigan, regarding MAP grant funding and capital funding. I have also been a LinC Peer Instructor through University College which is a course for Freshman that assists them with a smooth transition from high school to college. I helped with lesson planning, advice, and even presented my own helpful tips to the class on how to become active on campus. I also have been a Preview Guide for the past two years which entails being a freshman orientation leader. In addition, I have worked through our Division of Student Affairs as a Social Media Influencer.

Next, I have worked with the Dean of Students for the past 2 1/2 years. Also, I was a Welcome Week Intern this past summer which allowed me to assist and plan events for the incoming freshman to feel more connected with ISU. Lastly, I am the Student Trustee for ISU which entails establishing tuition and fees for ISU, analyzing and determining our Presidents salary based on performance, and approve of construction and projects greater than $500,000, and more. All in all, I love being so involved at my university and it has really helped make ISU my home away from home.

Leading With Hard Work and Heart Work with Shea Kidd Brown

It is so difficult to be mindful online these days. The apps and algorithms are just not designed to keep us in the present. And with so much curation necessary to create our idea of a “perfect profile,”  how can we make sure we are showing up in our digital accounts and profiles in a heartful way?

My guest today has mastered the art and science of being her whole self online. Whether she is weaving the values her grandmother taught her into presentations or sharing the intimacies of her adoption journey on social media, Dr. Shea Kidd Brown consistently stays true to her commitment to sharing both her personal and professional journeys openly and genuinely.

Shea has enjoyed a long career in college administration at a number of institutions of higher education in the southeastern region and now serves as the Vice President for Campus Life at Wake Forest University.

In this episode, Shea discusses her perspective on storytelling, congruency and the importance of bringing humanity into digital spaces. We’ll also dive into how balancing personal and professional narratives is essential for creating an impactful online presence and how Shea uses these platforms to create active, mindful connections for her campus community.
