Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age

20622596_mlI am pleased to share a professional development opportunity, Teaching and Learning in the Digital Age.  This interactive course is hosted by NASPA and can be completed at your own pace.  Please find more information below!

This session will explore how faculty and administrators can engage with technologically savvy college students, who want to learn and seek out technology. Various tools and platforms exist for classroom content such as Blackboard and Canvas, which can be used to enhance teaching and learning, beyond strictly online course offerings. Further, there are free social media tools available that faculty can experiment with for higher levels of student engagement. Examples will be shared from simple uses of technology in the classroom to innovative campus initiatives, bridging technology to learning. Finally, tech resources will be presented for faculty to become more digitally connected as a scholar.  The full course description is available here.

Kathy Guthrie, Associate Professor of Higher Education

Kathy L. Guthrie is an Associate Professor of Higher Education at Florida State University where she coordinates the Undergraduate Certificate in Leadership Studies. Guthrie focuses her research on undergraduate leadership education, student affairs professional development, and online teaching and learning. Currently, Guthrie is the associate editor of the New Directions in Student Leadership series. Recently, she co-authored a monograph titled Cultivating Leader Identity and Capacity in Students from Diverse Backgrounds and an article in the Journal of Computing in Higher Education, Reflection: The Importance of Making Meaning in E-Service-Learning Courses.

Josie Ahlquist, Instructor, Social Media Researcher & National Leadership Speaker

IMG_1574ccrt-2750775894-OJosie Ahlquist is a recently minted doctor at California Lutheran University in the Higher Education Leadership program.  She is an emerging scholar on social media in education, exploring how leadership and social media are intertwined.  She blogs weekly at www.josieahlquist.com, connecting scholarly research to best practices for students and educational leaders.  She is a co-author in the upcoming revised Handbook of Student Affairs Administration textbook, writing the chapter on Computer-Mediated Communication and Social Media and is published in The Journal of Leadership Studies, exploring Digital Leadership Education using Social Media and the Social Change Model.
